The Banyan tree is the first thing visitors to Sanksriti Kendra encounter, and it's hard to convey in images or descriptions its scale and its oddness. It sends down hundreds of prop roots, which cause it to a appear as a small forest of individual trees joining to form one large canopy.
Banyan is the national tree of India and is considered sacred. It features in mythology, ritual, and spiritual belief throughout South Asia and the Pacific; in Hindu mythology, it is associated with both Krishna and Shiva.
The Banyan tree at Sanskriti is meticulously well tended.
